Marian

Poland – 2025/06/16

Marian (71) feels deeply unsettled by how fast the climate is changing. Weather forecasts no longer reflect reality, and during a recent trip, what was predicted as beautiful weather turned out to be extreme and unpredictable.

He lives in Wrocław, where floods and storms are now common, and he fears for his home. Every time it starts to rain, he worries it might turn into a flood. He mourns the loss of snowy winters and says the unpredictability of the weather has a negative impact on people’s well-being – including his own. Conversations with climate skeptics are difficult and emotionally draining for him.

Through the emotion cards, he expresses both a longing for love and a confrontation with fear. He chose a heart to symbolize the belief that people who love each other don’t cause harm. But he also picked cards showing fear and distance, describing one figure as terrified – just like many people are in the face of climate change.

Still, he finds hope in action. He recently bought a hybrid car and tries to reduce pollution by avoiding plastic and chemicals, believing many people will start doing the same.

“Now when it starts to rain… we already get scared that there will be a flood.”

“When people love each other, they don’t hurt each other.”
